What is Logistics? Pt 1 of 3

But what is logistics? It seems to be an almost scary word, conjuring up a need for a PhD or Post-Graduate degree in Stochastics (an equally scary word). However, the truth is much more friendly. Logistics is simply "the management of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet some requirements, for example, of customers or corporations. The logistics of physical items usually involves the integration of information flow, material handling, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and often security". In other words, logistics is simply how, what, where, when, and by whom a thing or things will go from Point A to Point B.
